Course Synopsis

Watch basic concepts come to life in this course, a comprehensive synthesis of core project management principles designed to reinforce skills learned throughout the core curriculum. Build on your new competencies, test your knowledge, and practice your skills within an extensive, realistic, project management case study.

This new ESI course takes advantage of a new learning methodology and Flash™ delivery platform. Learning is both independent and interactive. Self-paced lessons contain realistic Scenarios, necessary Project Desk Resources, and Problems to solve that are similar to experiences project managers face every day. In addition, students work in virtual teams to produce key project deliverables during a simulated project.

Team members must quickly form an effective team in an environment similar to many corporate environments today. Real project deliverables are due, and a guideline schedule is communicated. Suggested modes of team communication and supporting collaborative tools are also provided.

Working in teams, participants perform preproposal analysis, then develop cost estimates and a project schedule. During postaward planning and project implementation, teams plan and implement the project, producing a detailed project description and a communications plan. Finally, the teams perform project closeout and document lessons learned. During the course of the simulated project, each team member takes a turn serving as project manager, insuring full and active participation by everyone on the team and resulting in real, transferable learning!

The Project Management Applications instructor provides each team with personalised feedback on the deliverables. Team members can also compare their team's output to the work of similar project teams. At the completion of each project phase, students provide feedback to the assigned project manager and to the team, suggesting where improvement could be made and reporting on lessons learned. The instructor adds value and closure to this process.

Project Management Applications is a practice-based course that provides the capstone for the ESI Project Management curriculum. Because it pulls together competencies gained in the other core project management courses, participants should complete at least four other core courses before registering for Project Management Applications .
