07/09/2011 - Brasilianische Indianer beschuldigen Shell, ihre Territorien durch die Ethanolproduktion zu verschlechtern.

Guarani-Indigenen aus Brasilien haben einen Brief an die Energiegesellschaft Shell geschrieben, in dem sie aufgefordert wurde, ihre Tätigkeit in ihren alten Gebieten einzustellen, um Ethanol zu produzieren, das das Ergebnis einer Vereinbarung mit der brasilianischen Firma Cosan ist.

 

Sie behaupten, daß sich die Gesundheit der Bevölkerung und der Tiere seit der Niederlassung der Fabrik in ihrem Land verschlechtert hat. Die Tageszeitung La Vanguardia versicherte, dass Shell mit dem brasilianischen Ethanolunternehmen Cosan eine Vereinbarung über die Durchführung des Projekts "Raizen" über die Biokraftstoffproduktion aus Zuckerrohr in den Gebieten der indigenen Guarani unterzeichnet habe.

 

Seit dem Bau der Fabrik in der Gegend - die Bevölkerung versichert - hat sich die Gesundheit von Kindern, Erwachsenen und Tieren verschlechtert. Sie haben sich daher mit einem Schreiben an beide Unternehmen gerichtet, in dem sie aufgefordert wurden, ihr "Antennengebiet" für die Ethanolerzeugung nicht mehr zu nutzen.

 

Wie La Vanguardia berichtet, erklären Indianer in dem Brief, daß Chemikalien, die auf Zuckerrohrplantagen verwendet werden, Guaranikindern akute Durchfall verursachen, Fische töten und Pflanzen vernichten, die ihnen helfen, viele Krankheiten zu lindern.

 

Survival International hat auch angeklagt, dass Dutzende Guaranis getötet wurden, weil sie versuchten, das Land zurückzuerobern, und dass viele andere Opfer von Gewalt geworden sind.

 

Die NRO hat erklärt, dass es "eine traurige Ironie ist, dass die Menschen Ethanol von Shell als ethische Alternative zu fossilen Brennstoffen kaufen" und die brasilianische Regierung aufgefordert, zu handeln, um zu verhindern, dass die Guarani ihr Territorium endgültig verlieren.
