
Eine internationale Forschung unter der Leitung des Oberster Rat für wissenschaftliche Forschung (CSIC) zeigt die Atomstruktur des menschlichen Enzyms Meprin β. Die Arbeit wurde diese Woche in der Zeitschrift veröffentlicht. Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Dieses Peptidase gehört zu den Enzymen, die die peptidischen Proteinbindungen brechen und sie ist in die Zellproliferation und -differenzierung verwickelt. Sie ist an die Plasmamembran der Zellen gebunden, die sie vom äußeren Medium abgrenzt.
Der Forscher des Institut für Molekularbiologie in Barcelona Xavier Gomis-Ruth, der die Forschung angeführt hat, erklärt: "Es handelt sich um ein homodymeres Enzym und um ein Protein-Multidominium." Aufgrund dieser Merkmale ist Meprin β durch das Vorhandensein von zwei identische Moleküle.
Die Entdeckung wurde durch die Verwendung von Strahlung von Syncrotron. Da dieses Enzym wiederum mit Entzündungs-, Krebs-, Fibrose- und Alzheimer-Erkrankungen verbunden ist, kann dieser Fortschritt für den CSIC-Ermittler neue Wege im Bereich der Entwicklung spezifischer Inhibitoren eröffnen, die zur Entwicklung von therapeutischen Arzneimitteln gegen neurodegenerative Störungen beitragen können."
Die Forschung wurde von Forschern der Universität Kiel, Max-Planck-Institut und Johannes Gutenberg Universität Mainz (alle in Deutschland) und Universität Bern (Schweiz).
