Abengoa gemeinsam mit Advanced Water Technology (AWT) die weltweit erste große Salatanlage, die aus Solarenergie betrieben wird. Die Anlage, die in Saudi-Arabien angesiedelt wird, wird 60.000 m3 täglich Wasser, mit dem die Region Al Khafji nordwestlich Saudi-Arabiens versorgt werden soll, wodurch die Wasserversorgung das ganze Jahr über gewährleistet wird.

 

Es handelt sich hierbei um ein weltweit führendes Projekt, da die Integration eines Photovoltaische Solaranlage in der Lage ist, die für den Entsalzungsprozess erforderliche Energie zu erzeugen und die Betriebskosten erheblich zu senken. Darüber hinaus wird sie über ein System verfügen, das die Optimierung des Stromverbrauchs und eine Vorbehandlung ermöglicht, um die hohe Salz-, Öl- und Fettquote zu verringern, die das Meerwasser in diesem Bereich aufweist.

 

Die Entsalzerin von Al Khafji wird die Versorgung mit Trinkwasser gewährleisten und damit auch zur sozioökonomischen Entwicklung des Landes beitragen. Wie in anderen Städten Saudi-Arabiens ist auch Wasser eine knappe Ressource. Abengoa und AWT werden die Bedürfnisse der lokalen Bevölkerung nachhaltig und sicher versorgen.

 

Mit dieser neuen Zuteilung stärkt Abengoa seine weltweite Führungsposition im Wassersektor, indem es seine Gesamtentsalzungskapazität auf ca. 1,5 m erhöht.3/Tag genug, um 8,5 M Menschen weltweit zu versorgen, und genauer gesagt im Nahen Osten, wo es bereits Hinweise im Wassersektor gibt, wie zum Beispiel die Salatmaschine Barka in Oman und im Energiesektor, wie das größte in dieser Region gebaute Solarkraftwerk in Abu Dhabi.

 

Für AWT stellt das Projekt seinen anfänglichen Eingriff in die Erforschung und Produktion von Salzwasser dar. Er plant, seine Aktivitäten in naher Zukunft auf Aktivitäten wie Wiederverwendung und Wasserwirtschaft auszuweiten.
