La Agentur für den Umweltschutz (EPA) hat gerade seinen Vorschlag zur Verringerung der Kohlendioxid in der WärmekraftwerkeDas Ziel ist es, in einem 30 % Emissionen bis 2030.

 

Obama rechtfertigte dieses Wochenende den Plan, indem er daran erinnerte, daß etwa 40 Prozent der Verschmutzung in den Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika von den Kraftwerken stammt.

 

Dies ist der ehrgeizigste Vorschlag zum Umweltschutz, mit dem der Vorsitzende ein Vermächtnis im Kampf gegen den Klimawandel hinterlassen will. Gina McCarthy, Leiterin der EPA, erklärte, dass "der gemeinsame Nenner durch eine sauberere und kohlenstoffarme Wirtschaft erhöht werden kann, die in den kommenden Jahrzehnten das Wachstum ankurbelt."

 

Die US-Handelskammer hat darauf hingewiesen, dass diese Maßnahme die Wirtschaft jährlich etwa 50 Milliarden Dollar kosten und die Energiekosten erhöhen wird. Auch die Gouverneuren einiger Staaten mit starker Abhängigkeit von Kohle oder Elektrizität, die mit diesem Erz erzeugt werden, wie Kansas, Kentucky oder Virginia, haben sich ebenfalls kritisch zu diesem Plan geäußert.

 

 

Beginn der Anwendung

 

Barack Obama hat mit diesem Plan beschlossen, seine Exekutivgewalt zu nutzen, um dem Kongress so auszuweichen, was bereits Kritik seitens der republikanischen Opposition ausgelöst hat, so dass der Beginn eines legalen Kampfes erwartet wird.

 

Dieser neue Plan soll 2016 umgesetzt werden, und die verschiedenen Staaten sollen die neuen Rechtsvorschriften flexibel umsetzen, da sie in der Lage sein werden, den Energiemix zu definieren, der zur Erreichung dieses Ziels erforderlich ist, indem sie den Einsatz erneuerbarer Energien oder anderer Quellen wie Erdgas fördern und die Energieeffizienz erhöhen. Hierzu wird ein nationales System für den Austausch von Emissionsgenehmigungen verwendet.

 

Die CO2-Emissionen werden bis 2020 voraussichtlich um 20 Prozent gesenkt.
