Ein Team von Wissenschaftlern aus verschiedenen Zentren in den Vereinigten Staaten hat eine "magnetische Resonanz" der Plasmabewegungen im Inneren der Sonne geschaffen und Licht auf wie sie Wärme von ihrem tiefen Inneren auf ihre Oberfläche überträgt. Das Ergebnis verbessert unser Wissen darüber, wie die Hitze von der Sonne nach außen transportiert wird, und widerspricht den bestehenden Erklärungen der Entstehung von Sonnenflecken und der Erzeugung des Magnetfeldes.

 

Die Arbeit wurde von Forschern der Universität von New York durchgeführt. Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences  und Abteilung Physik von der Universität Princeton, dem Max-Planck-Institut und der NASA.

 

Um ihre "magnetische Resonanz" der Plasmaströme der Sonne zu entwickeln, untersuchten die Forscher hochauflösende Bilder von der Oberfläche der Sonne, die von der  Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager (HMI) an Bord des NASA Solar Dynamics Observatory. Mit einer Kamera von 16 Millionen Pixel, HMI misst Bewegungen der Oberfläche der Sonne durch Konvektion verursacht.

 

Einmal gelang es den Wissenschaftlern, die genaue Wellenbewegung auf der Oberfläche der Sonne zu erfassen, und sie konnten ihre unsichtbaren Plasmabewegungen berechnen. Diese Methode unterscheidet sich nicht wesentlich von der Messung der Intensität und Richtung eines Meeresstroms durch Überwachung der Zeit, die ein Schwimmer braucht, um sich im Wasser zu bewegen.

 

 

Schlußfolgerungen

 

Die bisherigen Theorien, insbesondere was die Geschwindigkeit der Plasmabewegungen der Sonne betrifft, werden durch die erzielten Ergebnisse erheblich verändert. 100 Mal langsamer, als man dachte..

 

Diese Konvektionsbewegungen innerhalb der Sonne wirken sich auf die Zirkulationen im äußeren Drittel der Sonne aus, die für die Erzeugung der riesigen Magnetfelder des Astros verantwortlich sind.

 

Die Mitautorinnen des Studiums sind Thomas Duvall, ein Astrophysiker der NASA, und Katepalli Sreenivasan, Professor an der Universität an der Abteilung Physik der Universität New York und Courant Institut. Sreenivasan ist auch ein leitender Vizerektor für Wissenschaft und Technologie des Globalen Hochschulnetzes an der Universität New York und der Rektor des Polytechnischen Instituts NYU.
