Prozesse wie Fluidbewegung, Intensität elektromagnetischer Signale und chemische Zusammensetzung unterliegen zufälligen Schwankungen, die als Lärm. Es ist bekannt, dass die Energie aus diesem Lärm gesammelt werden kann, da es in der Natur Prozesse gibt, in denen dies geschieht.

 

Ein Team von Wissenschaftlern unter der Leitung des Spaniers José Ignacio Pascual, verantwortlich für die Nano-Bild-Gruppe des Zentrums nanoGUNE von San Sebastian hat er entdeckt, dass die zufällige Bewegung - das Geräusch - eines Wasserstoffmoleküls die periodische Bewegung eines mechanischen Oszillators verursachen kann.

 

Die Ergebnisse werden diese Woche in der Zeitschrift Wissenschaft.

 

"Dies bedeutet, dass das kleinste Molekül, das Wasserstoff-Molekül, zehn Trillionen Mal massiver 'Pumpt', erklärt Pascual.

 

 

Ein Atomkraftmikroskop wurde verwendet

 

Das Experiment entwickelte sich, indem es das Molekül im kleinen Raum zwischen einer flachen Oberfläche und der scharfen Spitze eines Atomkraftmikroskops einsperrte. Dieses Mikroskop verwendet die regelmäßige Bewegung einer Spitze am Ende eines sehr empfindlichen mechanischen Oszillators. Die zufällige Bewegung des Moleküls übt Kraft gegen die Spitze aus und macht sie zum Oszillieren.

 

Die Schwingung der Spitze wiederum moduliert die Bewegung des Wasserstoffmoleküls. Dies führt zu einer synchronisierten 'Dance' von beiden, in der die Spitze in ihrer Schwingung zu längeren Entfernungen als die Größe des Moleküls bewegt wird, mit der Energie, die aus dem Lärm entnommen wird.

 

Um die Bewegung des Wasserstoffmoleküls zu induzieren, weist Pascual darauf hin, dass "Elektrische Ströme durch das Molekül hindurchgegangen sind," und fügt hinzu, dass nichts denkt, dass "andere Energiequellen nicht zur Erzeugung dieser Schwankungen wie z.B. Licht" verwendet werden könnten.

 

Laut Felix von Oppen, einem weiteren Verfasser der Arbeit, "ist ein vielversprechender Aspekt der Ergebnisse, dass sie in der Konstruktion von künstlichen Molekularmotoren, die Energie aus Umgebungen mit Lärm zu extrahieren" berücksichtigt werden könnten.
