Ein preisgünstiges Polymer-basiertes Gerät schlägt einen Rekord und erreicht eine Effizienz von 10,6 %.

Eine von Forschern der UCLA (Universität Kalifornien in Los Angeles, USA) geschaffene Polymer-Solarzelle hat einen Rekord geknackt, indem sie 10,6 Prozent der Energie des Sonnenlichts in Elektrizität umwandelte. Die Zellleistung übersteigt den vorherigen Rekord von 8,6 Prozent, die im Juli letzten Jahres von derselben Gruppe gegründet wurde.

Die Polymer-Solarzellen sind flexibel, leicht und potenziell billig, obwohl ihre Leistung geringer ist als die der konventionellen Zellen, die aus anorganischen Materialien wie Silizium hergestellt werden. Das Ziel der Forscher unter der Leitung von Yang Yang, Professor für Werkstoffwissenschaften und Ingenieurwissenschaften an der UCLA, besteht darin, einer Polymer-Solarzelle mit dünnen Siliziumzellen konkurrieren kann. Yangs Zelle, aktiviert durch eine neue Photovoltaisches Polymer entwickelt von einem japanischen Unternehmen, Sumitomo Chemical, wird darauf hingewiesen, dass die Forscher immer besser sind, um Solarzellen aus diesen zarten Materialien herzustellen.

Die neue plastische Solarzelle kombiniert zwei Schichten, die mit verschiedenen Lichtbändern arbeiten: ein Polymer, das mit sichtbares Licht und andere, die mit Infrarotlicht. "Das Solarspektrum ist sehr breit, vom nahen Infrarot bis zum Infrarot und UV-Strahlen, und eine einzelne Komponente der Solarzelle kann nicht alles machen," sagt Yang.

Die besten anorganischen Solarzellen sind auch Mehrschicht-Geräte, obwohl es schwierig ist, mehrere Schichten organische Solarzellen zu schaffen. Die Polymere können aus einer Lösung gedruckt werden, wie zum Beispiel beim Drucken von Tinte auf Papier, was zu einem der wichtigsten Vorteile der Technologie und auch zu etwas gegen sie führt, so Alan Heeger, der den Nobelpreis 2000 für seine Ko-Entdeckung der leitfähigen Polymere gemeinsam hatte. "Wir brauchen keine hohen Temperaturen, und die Herstellung ist einfach," sagt er. Allerdings ist es schwierig, die richtigen Lösungsmittel zu wählen, um jede Schicht in eine Zelle zu drucken, ohne dass es zu Blutungen in der unteren Zelle kommt. Je mehr Schichten, desto komplexer wird das Problem. Die elektrischen Eigenschaften jeder Schicht zusammenzufügen, ist auch eine Herausforderung, ebenso wie sie alle zusammen zu verbinden.

Yang weist darauf hin, dass er eine Polymer-Solarzelle mit einer Effizienz von 15 Prozent schaffen will. Er erklärt, dass Die Effizienzdaten sinken in der Regel um ein Drittel, wenn die Zellen aus dem Labor gehen und in Module verkauft werden.. Eine Polymer-Solarzelle, die im Labor eine Effizienz von 15 Prozent bietet, wird wahrscheinlich zu einer Effizienz von 10 Prozent in einem Modul führen, eine Zahl, die Yang für gut genug hält, um mit den dünnen Silizium-Solarkomponenten zu konkurrieren.
