Eine Untersuchung über die Nanotechnologie für Kohlenwasserstoffe, entwickelt vom Professor Javier Garcia, aus der Abteilung anorganische Chemie der Universität Alicante, wurde auf dem Titelblatt des MIT, Technologieinstitut Masachussets, eines der renommiertesten der Welt zur Förderung des Technologietransfers und der Unternehmensgründung.

 

Javier García, stellvertretender Vorsitzender des Rates der Neue Technologien des Weltwirtschaftsforums und Direktor des Labors für Molekular Nanotechnologie der Universität von AlicanteEr begann vor sieben Jahren mit dem US-Institut und war noch Student. Aus seiner postdocalen Forschung entstand Rive Technology, eine Startup, die zusammen mit einem anderen ehemaligen Unternehmer des MIT Andrew Dougherty gegründet wurde, der seine Nanotechnologieforschung auf Kohlenwasserstoffe anwendet, mit dem revolutionären Ziel, die Erdölraffination zu transformieren.

"Es gibt derzeit mehrere Raffinerien in den USA, die diese Technologie von der Universität von Alicante übertragen," erklärt der Forscher von Alicantino, der sich "mit Freude überrascht" bekennt, weil das IMT seine Arbeit nicht weniger hervorgehoben hat als auf seiner Homepage, vielleicht einer der meistbesuchten der Welt. In den Nachrichten des Instituts wird an die Entstehung dieses innovativen Unternehmens erinnert, das von amerikanischem Ingenieur und Unternehmer Larry Evans unterstützt wurde.

 

2006 haben die drei Gründer von Rive Technology ein neues schnell wachsendes Unternehmen erhalten, das nun die Erfindung von Javier García-Martinez auf den Markt bringt. Mit Sitz in Boston und einem Forschungs- und Entwicklungsbereich in Princeton, NJ, hat Rive mehr als 67 Millionen Dollar Risikokapital gesammelt - bereits ab 2010 wurde er mit WR Grace, einem globalen Anbieter von raffinierter Technologie, für die Herstellung seines ersten kommerziellen Produkts assoziiert.

Garcia zufolge "hat diese Technologie eine große Zahl von Anwendungen wie Wasser, Luftaufbereitung, Abfallumwandlung," so das MIT.
