Ana Rodrigues Pinto, von der Universitäte do Minho (Portugal) hat in seiner Dissertation am Universität von Navarra Neuartige Sensoren in Photonenglasfaser.

Sie erklärt, dass "diese Fasern aufgrund ihrer Struktur im Gegensatz zu den allgemein verwendeten optischen Fasern in der Telekommunikation Design- und Anwendungsfreiheit gewähren."

 

In den letzten Jahren gab es immer mehr Bedenken, um die Beschränkungen zu überwinden, die häufige optische Fasern für die Durchführung von Glasfasersensoren hatten, die zur Messung physikalischer, chemischer und biologischer Eigenschaften verwendet werden. 1996 entwickelte der britische Forscher Philip Russell, mit dem Ana Pinto 2011 einen Forschungsaufenthalt absolvierte, erstmals Photonenglasfasern.

 

"Die Struktur dieser Faser enthält eine Reihe von Löchern, die für die Durchführung von Sensoren sehr interessant sind, da diese Löcher mit den Flüssigkeiten oder Gasen gefüllt werden können, die wir mit dem Sensor messen wollen," so die Forscherin. "Diese Struktur ermöglicht auch die Führung des Lichts in Hohlkernen und seine Herstellung in einem einzigen Material - typisch Glas -, was mit der konventionellen Glasfaser nicht möglich ist, so dass diese Fasern eine sehr attraktive Technologie für Anwendungen wie Glasfaserlaser und Hochleistungsübertragung sind."

 

Während der Doktorarbeit an der UPNA entwickelte Ana Pinto Sensoren zur Messung von Temperatur und Bewegung. Zu diesem Zweck hat er die Zusammenarbeit zwischen der Institute of Photonic Technology (Jena, Deutschland) wo sie einzigartige Photonenglasfasern in der Welt herstellten. Zu den wichtigsten Beiträgen der These gehört die Einleitung von zwei neuen Forschungslinien in der Universität von Navarra: physikalische Sensoren auf der Grundlage von Photonenglasfasern und zufälligen Lasern für die Sensorüberwachung. In diesem Zusammenhang betont die Forscherin, dass wir "den ersten völlig zufälligen Laser für die Anwendung auf Sensoren entwickelt haben."

 

Die Doktorarbeit "Photonic Crystal Fibers for Sensing Applications" (Photonic Kristallfasern für Sensoranwendungen) wurde von Manuel López-Amo Sainz, Professorin für Elektro- und Elektroniktechnik, geleitet und erhielt die Qualifikation von Apto cum laude mit dem Titel Europäischer Doktor. Diese These hat zu 8 Artikeln in internationalen Zeitschriften der Journal Citation Reports und 4 Beiträge zu internationalen Konferenzen.

 

Ana Pinto studierte 2006 in Physik und arbeitete bis August 2008 als Forschungsstipendiatin an der Optoelektrischen Einheit und elektronischen Systemen von InescPorto (Porto-Portugal). Im September 2008 zog er nach Pamplona, um den Master in Kommunikation und Promotion in der Abteilung für Elektro- und Elektroniktechnik der UPNA. Während dieser Studien hat er drei Forschungsaufenthalte in InescPorto (Portugal, 2009), im B-Phot de la Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Belgien, 2010) und in der Abteilung Russell des Max-Planck Institute for the Science of Light (Deutschland, 2011) absolviert.
