
Ein Team mit Beteiligung der Oberster Rat für wissenschaftliche Forschung (CSIC) ist es gelungen, Spiegelmoleküle oder Enantiomere, die sich dadurch auszeichnen, daß sie sich mit ihrem spekulativen Bild nicht überbieten lassen, auf einem Graphitoberfläche. Die Arbeit erscheint in der Zeitschrift Angewandte Chemie International Edition, eröffnet den Weg für die Entwicklung von neue Methoden der Molekülreinigung mit Anwendungen in Branchen wie der Pharmaindustrie.
La Churalität ist die Eigenschaft eines Objekts, das nicht mit seinem spekulieren Bild überschaubar ist. Diese Eigenschaft ist auf makroskopischer und mikroskopischer Ebene im menschlichen Körper vorhanden, zum Beispiel in den Händen, da die Linke mit ihrem spekulierenden Bild (der rechten Hand) nicht überfordert werden kann. Die Trennung von zwei Enantiomeren ist wichtig für die Entwicklung von Medikamenten, da oft nur eines von ihnen die gewünschte biologische Aktivität hat und nur eines nützlich ist, obwohl beide Eigenschaften identisch sind.
Die neue Methode besteht darin, Enantiomere zu trennen durch Adsorption, selektiv, von einem auf der Oberfläche des Graphits, der zuvor mit einer Schicht einer chemischen Verbindung aus einem Dickenmolekül bedeckt war. "Dieses Molekül ist dazu bestimmt, eines der Enantiomere anzuziehen und aufzunehmen, aber nicht das andere. Die Studie ist Teil des Projekts Lösen(Bottom-up Resolution of Functional Enantiomers from Self-Organised Monolayers)) eine Initiative des Siebten Rahmenprogramms der Europäischen Union zur Untersuchung von Chiralmolekülen und zur Optimierung ihrer Anwendungen in der Industrie.
