Mikroalgen werden in den letzten Jahren als potenzielle Rohstoffe für die Herstellung von Biodiesel, synthetischem und flüssigem Biokraftstoff, der aus Pflanzenölen von Ölen gewonnen wird, betrachtet. Aus wissenschaftlicher Sicht wurde viel an Pflanzen wie Palmen oder Soja untersucht, aber bei Mikroalgen bleibt ein erheblicher Verbesserungsspielraum.

 

Auf dieser Grundlage hat das Vasco Institute for Agrario Research and Development, Neiker-Technalia, das Energreen-Projekt gestartet, um Mikroalgen mit drei Zielen zu entwickeln: Sie sollen in Bezug auf die Ölmenge produktiver, wirtschaftlich rentabler und umweltfreundlicher in allen Phasen des Prozesses sein. Die geschätzte Laufzeit dieses Projekts beträgt zwei Jahre und verfügt über einen Haushalt von einer Million Euro, von dem 660.000 aus den europäischen EFRE-Mitteln stammen.

 

In der Kulturphase werden die traditionellen Methoden durch eine Veränderung des Stoffwechsels dieser mikroskopischen Algen verbessert, um mehr Lipide, d. h. mehr Öl, zu erzeugen. Auch neue Techniken der Ölgewinnung werden entwickelt, die auf industriellem und umweltfreundlichem Gebiet angewandt werden.

 

Eine Neuerung des Neiker-Technalia-Projekts ist die Nutzung der Restbiomasse, die nach der Ölgewinnung verbleibt. Durch einen anaeroben Verdauungsprozess, bei dem der Rückstand in Abwesenheit von Sauerstoff einem Zersetzungsprozess unterzogen wird, wird Biogas gewonnen.

 

Mikroalgen sind ein wichtiger Organismus für die Umwelt, nicht nur als Hersteller von Kraftstoffen aus erneuerbaren Quellen wie Biodiesel, der biologisch abbaubar ist und keinen Treibhauseffekt verursacht. Während ihres Wachstums absorbieren mikroskopische Algen große Mengen an Kohlendioxid aus Industriegasen, die zur globalen Erwärmung der Erde beitragen.

 

 

Wer ist am Evergreen-Projekt beteiligt?

 

Das baskische Institut für Agrarforschung und -entwicklung, Neiker-Tecnalia, ist in den Bereichen Agrarinnovation, Umwelt und natürliche Ressourcen tätig. Der Hintergrund all ihrer Forschungsprojekte ist die Verbesserung der Produktivität und Wettbewerbsfähigkeit der Produktionssysteme des Primärsektors durch fortschrittliche wissenschaftliche Lösungen, die nachhaltig und umweltfreundlich sind.

 

An der Forschung des Evergreen-Projekts beteiligen sich auch CENER (National Center for Renovable Energys), die Tecnalia Research & Innovation Foundation, die Universität des Baskenlandes (UPV-EHU), die Vereinigung für Umwelt und Sicherheit in Aquitaine (APESA) und das CATAR-CRITT-Zentrum für die Umsetzung und Verarbeitung von Agroressourcen (CATAR-Critt) und die Partner von Actian.
