Facebook hat gerade veröffentlicht zum ersten Mal seine CO2-Fußabdruck 2011. . , die die Daten zum Energieverbrauch aller ihrer Rechenzentren und Büros a Weltweit.

 

Der jährliche Gesamt-CO2-Fußabdruck pro aktiver Facebook-Benutzer beträgt 269 Gramm. Der Gesamtenergieverbrauch lag bei  532 Mio kWh. Die Treibhausgasemissionen waren gleich 285.000 t CO2.

 

Facebook hat sich das Ziel gesetzt, mindestens 25% Energie aus sauberen und erneuerbaren Quellen für 2015.

Energieverbrauch Facebook insgesamt 532 GWh.

 

Energiemix von Facebook genutzt: 23% erneuerbaren Ursprungs, 27% Kohle, 17% Erdgas, 13% Kern und 20 % ohne Kategorie

 

CO2-Gesamtabdruck pro Jahr pro aktiver Facebook-Nutzer pro Monat beträgt 269 Gramm. Um diese Zahl in den Kontext zu stellen, hat die Verwendung von Facebook von einer Person für das ganze 2011 ungefähr den gleichen CO2-Fußabdruck wie ein halber Milchkaffee. Oder drei große Bananen. Oder ein paar Gläser Wein.

 

Treibhausgasemissionen Facebook, auch bekannt als CO2-Fußabdruck der Rechenzentren, Büroraum, Mitarbeiterbewegungen, Flugreisen der Mitarbeiter, der Bau des Rechenzentrums und der Transport von Servern, betrug etwa 285.000 Tonnen CO2e.

 

 

Verbesserungsziele

 

Im Jahr 2014 wird Facebook in Lulea (Schweden) seine Online-Datenzentren einrichten, die es ihm ermöglichen, seine Energiekosten für die Kühlung zu senken und die Erzeugung und Nutzung erneuerbarer Energiequellen bis 2015 um mindestens 25% zu erhöhen.

 

Darüber hinaus muss jedes neue Rechenzentrum in seine Anlagen eigene Anlagen für erneuerbare Erzeugung aufnehmen, wie im Falle des Prineville-Datenzentrums, in dem eine Solarvoltaikanlage untergebracht ist.
