
Fast 60 Jahre nach dem Betrieb des weltweit ersten kommerziellen Atomreaktors ist Großbritannien bereit, eine neue Atomzeit mit einem doppelten Ziel zu führen: Verringerung seiner CO2-Emissionen und Energieabhängigkeit.
Die Annahme von acht Standorten für den Bau neuer Kraftwerke durch das britische Parlament ist das ehrgeizigste Atomprogramm Europas, an dem das spanische Unternehmen Iberdrola beteiligt ist.
Die britische Regierung hat deutlich gemacht, dass es keine direkten Beihilfen für Unternehmen geben wird, die in neue Kraftwerke investieren und die außerdem die Kosten für die Entsorgung der von ihnen erzeugten Abfälle tragen müssen.
Einer der Schlüsselfaktoren dafür, warum Kernkraftwerke noch ohne Subventionen eine Investition für den Privatsektor im Vereinigten Königreich sind, ist der Entwurf einer Reform des Elektrizitätsmarktes, den die Koalitionsregierung David Cameron gerade in dieser Woche vorgelegt hat, in dem es darum geht, langfristig einen festen Preis festzulegen, den die Kernenergien für ihre Produktion erzielen werden.
Darüber hinaus sieht der Entwurf die Festsetzung eines Mindestpreises für die Tonne CO2 vor, was die Erzeugung fossiler Brennstoffe und die Attraktivität emissionsärmerer Elektrizität erhöhen wird.
