
Die Staatssekretärin für Forschung Entwicklung und Innovation, Carmen Vela, hat heute in Santander das neue Institut für Biomedizin und Biotechnologie in Kantabrien, gemischtes Zentrum für Oberster Rat für wissenschaftliche Forschung (CSIC), Universität Kantabrien und Regierung von Kantabrien, über die Gesellschaft für regionale Entwicklung in Kantabrien.
Bei der Eröffnungsfeier waren auch der Vorsitzende des CSIC, Emilio Lora-Tamayo, der Präsident von Kantabrien, Ignacio Diego, der Rektor der Universität Kantabra, José Carlos Gómez, und der Direktor des Instituts für Biomedizin und Biotechnologie in Kantabrie, Javier León, anwesend.
Lora-Tamayo betont die Bedeutung dieses Zentrums: "Das Institut für Biomedizin und Biotechnologie in Kantabrien führt bereits Forschungsarbeiten zur Exzellenz in der Biomedizin durch. Darüber hinaus arbeiten ihre Forscher daran, gesundheitsbezogene Produktionsbereiche durch ein hohes Maß an Technologietransfer zu fördern. Dies macht dieses Zentrum zu einer ausgewogenen Kombination zwischen öffentlicher Forschung und dem Transfer von Wissen und Technologie in die Gesellschaft durch Privatunternehmen."
Dieses Zentrum mit einer Fläche von 6.000 Quadratmetern, verteilt auf fünf Pflanzen, verfügt über 23 Labore für Forschungsgruppen, ein krankheitsfreies Tier, einen Massensequenzierungsdienst, eine fortgeschrittene Mikroskopie und eine biologische Diagnose- und Bewertungseinheit, unter anderem. Außerdem wurde zur Förderung des Technologietransfers ein gemischtes Gebiet geschaffen, in dem die Forschungsgruppen in Zusammenarbeit mit technologiebasierten Unternehmen arbeiten.

Arbeit für Gesundheitsforschung
Bei der Arbeit in diesem Zentrum ist es in zwei Hauptforschungslinien unterteilt: Mikrobiologie und Zellsignalisierung. Die Abteilung Mikrobiologie und Genomik konzentriert sich unter anderem auf molekulare, intergenomische, Brucellose, Protein- und Genomtechnik und Bioinformatik.
Die Abteilung Zell- und Molekulare Signalisierung untersucht molekulare Prozesse, die mit Krebs, Pharmakologie, chronischen und autoimmunen entzündlichen Erkrankungen sowie der Regulierung der Genexpression während der Entwicklung, unter anderem verbunden sind.
