
Auf einigen Inseln der Malediven sind ganze Dörfer wegen des Anstiegs des Meeresspiegels an andere Orte verlegt worden, sagte ein Minister dieses Archipels am Donnerstag, der daran erinnert, dass der Klimawandel für die Inselländer mit sehr geringer Höhe teuer ist.
Der Umweltminister Mohamed Aslam sagte, dass es den Klimaskeptikern genügt, dieses Land, ein Archipel im Indischen Ozean und andere Nationen auf See zu betrachten, um die Auswirkungen auf die Umwelt zu sehen.
"In den letzten zwei oder drei Jahrzehnten haben wir ganze Bevölkerungen von einer Insel auf die andere verlagert, weil das Leben auf diesen Inseln nicht nachhaltig war," sagte die Asiatische Entwicklungsbank auf einer Konferenz über die durch den Klimawandel verursachten Migrationen.
Er erklärte nicht, wie viele Menschen gezwungen wurden, umzuziehen, obwohl jede Insel ein paar tausend Einwohner hat.
Mit fast 313 000 Einwohnern bilden die Malediven die kleinste asiatische Nation in der Bevölkerung und im Gebiet. Die durchschnittliche Höhe des Bodens beträgt 1,5 Meter über dem Meeresspiegel. Der höchste Punkt des Landes erreicht knapp 2,3 Meter (7 Meter 9 Zoll), so dass es extrem anfällig für den Fortschritt des Meeres.
Aslam sagte, dass Trinkwasser in Gegenden seines Landes selten ist, mit Pflanzen, die Entsalzung betreiben. Auch die chemische Zusammensetzung des Bodens hat sich verändert, und einige Pflanzen können nicht wachsen, und viele Inseln leiden unter den Auswirkungen der Erosion.
Die Malediven gehören zu den ersten Opfern des Anstiegs des Meeresspiegels, da Gletscher aufgrund der globalen Erwärmung schmelzen und ihre Beamten eine Politik gegen den Klimawandel mit großem Eifer verteidigen.
