Die in Lateinamerika installierte Windkraft stieg 2010 um 53,8% und erreichte laut einem Bericht des Internationalen Rates für Windenergie etwas mehr als 2GW.

In Lateinamerika wurden im Jahr 2010 703 MW Windkraftanlagen installiert. Die größten Beiträge stammten aus Brasilien und Mexiko, die 326 MW bzw. 316 MW neue Windparks umfassten.

Brasilien verfügt über die größte installierte Windkraftkapazität in Lateinamerika mit 931 MW in Betrieb. Es folgt Mexiko mit 517 MW und dann Chile (172 MW) und Costa Rica (123 MW) an der dritten und vierten Stelle.

Der Internationale Rat für Windkraft hat darauf hingewiesen, dass Südamerika bis 2020 42,2 GW und 2030 93,3 GW haben könnte. "Mit einer solchen Entwicklung würde Windkraft einen wichtigen Teil des Strombedarfs decken, mit einer Erzeugung von mehr als 100 TWh im Jahr 2020 und 231 TWh bis 2030," fügte der Internationale Rat für Windenergie hinzu.

Insbesondere Argentinien wird als ein zukunftsweisender Markt für die Windkraftindustrie bezeichnet, wo Impsa der größte Hersteller von Windkraftanlagen ist. Das staatliche Unternehmen Enarsa hat Verträge für Windprojekte mit einer Kapazität von 755 MW in seiner Ausschreibung für erneuerbare Energien Genren vergeben.

Elektrofahrzeuge mit Lithium-Batterien senden kein CO2 aus oder schädigen die Umwelt, sofern der Strom aus erneuerbaren Energien wie Windkraft, Photovoltaik und Thermosolar stammt. Die Windkraftanlagen werden in der Lage sein, Strom an das Elektrofahrzeug zu liefern, das in Zukunft auch für die Speicherung und Regulierung von Stromfluktuationen in der Windkraftbranche dienen wird.
