
Der gemeinsame Plan für Beschäftigung und Wachstum, der von einer hochrangigen Gruppe aus der Europäischen Union (EU) und den USA geprüft wird, um die besten Möglichkeiten zur Wiederbelebung ihrer Wirtschaft zu ermitteln, wird sich unter anderem auf die Nanotechnologie und die Elektroautoindustrie konzentrieren.
"Wir befinden uns derzeit in der frühen Phase der Ermittlung vorrangiger Sektoren zur Förderung von Wachstum und Beschäftigung," sagte der US-Botschafter in der EU, William E. Kennard auf einer Pressekonferenz nach dem jährlichen EU-US-Gipfel im Brüsseler Presseclub.
"Bislang haben wir einige zukunftsweisende Branchen wie die Nanotechnologie, die Elektroautoindustrie und die Entwicklung des Gesundheitswesens im Internet (E-Health)," hat Kennard nach dem bilateralen Gipfel in Washington letzte Woche bereits in Brüssel darauf hingewiesen.
Die hochrangige Gruppe der EU und der USA für Beschäftigung und Wachstum wurde am 28. November auf der Tagung des Transatlantischen Wirtschaftsrats (TEC) angekündigt, mit der beide Parteien ihre gegenseitigen Handelshemmnisse abbauen wollen.
Kennard gab eine Botschaft zur Unterstützung der EU-Partner in der Schuldenkrise in der Eurozone heraus und erinnerte auf dem bilateralen Gipfel an die Worte von US-Präsident Barack Obama, der darauf hinwies, dass Washington "alles daran tun" werde, um dem europäischen Freund zu helfen.
Darüber hinaus erklärte der US-Botschafter bei der EU, dass Obama wegen des bevorstehenden Inkrafttretens der Gebühr "besorgt" sei, die Fluggesellschaften, die in die Europäische Union (EU) einreisen oder ausreisen, für ihre Kohlendioxidemissionen (CO2) zu zahlen hätten.
Am 1. Januar 2008 wird die EU-Rechtsvorschriften zur Einbeziehung des Luftverkehrs in das EU-Emissionshandelssystem (ETS) in Kraft treten, das alle Luftfahrtunternehmen, die durch ihr Hoheitsgebiet fahren, verpflichten wird, für jede Tonne CO2 zu zahlen.
Kennard betonte, dass Brüssel und Washington "bei der Bekämpfung des Klimawandels Hand in Hand gehen."
"Es ist ein Mythos, dass wir eine andere Umweltpolitik haben. Die USA haben in letzter Zeit viele Maßnahmen zur Bekämpfung des Klimawandels ergriffen," so er.
