Forscher von Forschungseinrichtungen im Bereich Nanotechnologie NanoGUNE (San Sebastián, Spanien), Universität München (LMU, Deutschland) und Neaspect GmbH (Martinsried, Deutschland) haben eine neue technologische Entwicklung vorgestellt, die eines der wichtigsten Themen der Materialwissenschaft und der Nanotechnologie löst: wie man Materialien auf Nanoebene identifizieren kann.

 

 

Nicht-invasive Darstellung auf Nanometric-Ebene

 

Einer der neuesten Entwicklungen in der modernen Chemie und Nanotechnologie ist die nichtinvasive Kartierung von Materialien mit Nano-Auflösung. Es gibt in der Tat eine Vielzahl von hochauflösenden Bildtechniken (z.B. elektronische Mikroskopie oder Mikroskopie von Abtastsonden); dennoch kann ihre chemische Empfindlichkeit den Anforderungen der modernen Nanoanalytischen Chemie nicht gerecht werden. Die optische SpektroskopieAndererseits bietet es eine sehr hohe chemische Empfindlichkeit, aber seine Auflösung ist aufgrund der Beugung auf etwa die Hälfte der Wellenlänge begrenzt; daher ist eine chemische Kartierung der Nanoskala nicht möglich.

 

Die chemische Identifizierung von Nanometern und die Kartierung von Materialien ist nun mit NanoFTIR möglich, einer optischen Technik, die die Technik s-SNOM (optische Mikroskopie der Nahfeldabtastung) mit der Infrarotspektroskopie durch Fourier (FTIR) kombiniert. Durch die Beleuchtung der metallisierten Spitze eines Atomkraftmikroskops (AFM) mit einem Infrarot-Breitband-Laser und die Analyse des verstreuten Rücklichts mit einem speziell entwickelten Fourier-Transformator-Spektrometer können Forscher eine Infrarot-Local-Spektroskopie mit einer räumlichen Auflösung von weniger als 20nm zeigen. "NanoFTIR ermöglicht uns die schnelle und effektive Identifizierung aller aktiven Infrarotmaterialien auf Nanoebene," sagt Florian Huth, der die Experimente durchgeführt hat.

 

Ein wichtiger praktischer Aspekt ist, dass das Spektrum des NanoFTIR voll mit dem konventionellen FTIR-Spektrum kompatibel ist, während die räumliche Auflösung im Vergleich zur konventionellen Infrarotspektroskopie um einen Faktor von 300 erhöht wird. "Die hohe Empfindlichkeit gegenüber der chemischen Zusammensetzung, kombiniert mit ultra hoher Auflösung, macht die NanoFTIR zu einem einzigartigen Werkzeug für Forschung, Entwicklung und Qualitätskontrolle von Polymerchemie, Biomedizin und Pharmaindustrie," so Rainer Hillenbrand, Leiter der Nanooptik-Gruppe von NanoGUNE.

 

Zum Beispiel kann NanoFTIR für die chemische Identifizierung von Verunreinigungen von Proben der Nanoskala verwendet werden. Die Abb. 1 zeigt ein AFM-Bild eines PMMA-Films auf einer Siliziumoberfläche. Der AFM-Phasenkontrast zeigt eine Kontamination von 100 nm an, aber die chemische Identifizierung des Partikels kann nicht von diesen Bildern abgeleitet werden. Mit Hilfe der Nano-FTIR-Technik kann ein infrarotes lokales Spektrum in der Mitte des Teilchens erreicht und mit der Datenbank des konventionellen FTIR-Spektrums verglichen werden, so dass die Verschmutzung als PDMS-Partikel identifiziert werden kann.
