Ein internationales Team von Forschern mit Beteiligung der Oberster Rat für wissenschaftliche Forschung (CSIC) gezeigt hat, dass die Globale Satellitenfotosynthese aus der Quantifizierung der chlorophilen Fluoreszenz (ein Prozess der Re-Emission überschüssiger Licht aus der Pflanze) unter Verwendung von Spektroskopietechniken.

 

In der Studie, veröffentlicht in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) wird die Beziehung zwischen Photosynthese und chlorophiler Fluoreszenz aus dem Weltraum dargestellt, die die Raum-Zeit-Variation der primären Produktivität (d. h. das Ergebnis des Photosyntheseprozesses) beobachtet. Diese neue Methode kann dazu beitragen, die Prognosen zur landwirtschaftlichen Produktivität zu verbessern und Simulationen über die Auswirkungen des Klimawandels auf die Ernten, unter anderem, zu verfeinern.

 

Die Schätzung der Photosynthese durch Beobachtungen der Chlorophilen Fluoreszenz (FIS) an Bord des MetOp-A-Satelliten für vier Jahre hat sich als überlegen erwiesen als andere traditionelle Satellitenanflüge, die nicht auf der Bestimmung der Fluoreszenzenz beruhen. Sie hat auch ihren Vorteil gegenüber Simulationen gezeigt, die mit globalen Modellen des bisher verwendeten Kohlenstoffzyklus durchgeführt wurden.

 

Die Ergebnisse deuten beispielsweise darauf hin, dass die geschätzte Photosynthese in intensiven landwirtschaftlichen Gebieten in den USA und Indien 50 bis 75 Prozent höher ist als die Quantifizierung, die die derzeit verwendeten globalen Modelle des Kohlenstoffkreislaufs vorgenommen haben. Die Studie, an deren Ausarbeitung das Institut für nachhaltige Landwirtschaft des CSIC, NASA-Teams, das US-Landwirtschaftsministerium, die Stanford-Universität, das Max Planck Institut für Physik und die Freie Universität Berlin sowie Zentren in Schweden, Australien, der Schweiz, Frankreich und Italien beteiligt waren, schließt dies ab.

 

 

Ein entscheidender biochemischer Prozess für das Leben auf der Erde

 

Photosynthese ist der Prozess, bei dem Pflanzen Energie in Form von Licht aufnehmen, um Kohlendioxid und Wasser in organische Verbindungen, vor allem Kohlenhydrate, zu verwandeln. Dieser biochemische Prozess ist von entscheidender Bedeutung für das Leben auf Erden, da er die wichtigste Energiequelle für alle Lebewesen ist. Deshalb ist es so wichtig, die Photosynthese auf globaler Ebene zu verstehen und zu verstehen, wie sie auf den Klimawandel und die Auswirkungen des Menschen reagiert.

 

Das Hauptproblem bei der globalen Überwachung der Photosynthese besteht darin, dass die Schätzungen der Primärproduktivität, die aus den derzeitigen Modellen abgeleitet werden, sehr vage sind, vor allem in Gebieten mit großem Interesse, wie z. B. Gebieten mit intensiver landwirtschaftlicher Tätigkeit. Das neue Messsystem bietet umfassende und präzise Schätzungen.
