Die Europäische Kommission hat das Forschungsprojekt vorgelegt OMEGA. Dieses Projekt hat ein System geschaffen, das Höhere Breitbandgeschwindigkeiten und dass so viele weitere Geräte zu Hause angeschlossen werden können.

 

Die Industrie ist nun bereit, Geräte auf Standardbasis herzustellen(IEEE P1905.1), Das Projekt OMEGA wurde gestartet. Durch die Verwendung von sichtbarem und Infrarotlicht, ähnlich wie bei einem ferngesteuerten Fernseher, konnten Forscher Daten mit bis zu einer Geschwindigkeit von280 Mbit/s durch eine Entfernung von 10 Metern. Die Daten werden in zwei Richtungen zwischen mehreren Geräten übertragen, wodurch ein Infrarotnetz entsteht. In einer Weltpremiere, das Projektteam hat Daten über LED-Beleuchtung gesendet, die in vielen Haushalten immer häufiger vorkommt.

 

 

Sichtbare Kommunikation

 

Die Kommission betonte, dass die Kombination dieser Technologie mit beispielsweise der Funkübertragung zu deutlich höheren Breitbandgeschwindigkeiten für die Verbraucher führen könnte. Es könnte auch andere Vorteile haben, wenn es allein verwendet wird, da diese Art von Technologie, bekannt als "Sichtbare Lichtkommunikation" Es verursacht weniger Funkstörungen, da das Signal in einem Raum enthalten ist. Dies wäre besonders vorteilhaft für den Einsatz in Krankenhäusern oder Produktionsstätten, wo ein Funkübertragungsnetz nicht zugelassen ist oder wo es den Betrieb einer Ausrüstung beeinträchtigt.

 

Die EU hat 12,41 Mio. EUR für den Entwurf eines Gesamtbudgets von 19,13 Mio. EUR bereitgestellt. Im September 2010 legte die Kommission eine Reihe von Maßnahmen vor, um schnelle und ultraschnelle Breitbandnetze in Europa anzubieten..

 

 Dieses von der EU finanzierte Projekt wird von Forschern geleitet von Unternehmen, Universitäten und Forschungszentren von Österreich, Frankreich, Deutschland, Griechenland, Slowenien und dem Vereinigten Königreich und wurde von der Europäischen Kommission vorgelegt.
