
Die Initiative ist das Ergebnis des europäischen Projekts "EFRUD," das im Rahmen des LIFE-Programms durchgeführt wird, um die Lebensqualität in den Städten zu verbessern und eine Lösung für "einen der Verkehre mit den größten Auswirkungen auf die städtische Umwelt" zu finden.
Mit einem Budget von 1,5 Mio. EUR wird das Projekt von der Europäischen Union halbiert und vom italienischen Konsortium für Forschung und Entwicklung im Bereich des innovativen Verkehrs (Train) koordiniert.
Die italienischen Einrichtungen Comune di Roma und die Fondazione Metes nehmen ebenfalls an ihrer Entwicklung teil.
Nach Angaben der Quellen beruht die Wahl Valencias und Roms zur Entwicklung des Experiments auf dem Klima beider Länder, das "mehr Anstrengungen im Bereich des Kühlverkehrs" erfordert, was unter anderem Erzeugnisse wie Milch, Fleisch und Medizin einschließt.
Die Studie hat ergeben, dass diese Art des Güterverkehrs "die größten Umweltauswirkungen" mit sich bringt, indem der Kraftstoffverbrauch zu den Emissionen der Kühlanlagen und des Lärms durch diese Systeme und Dieselfahrzeuge hinzugefügt wird.
Die Tests werden mit verschiedenen Betreibern und in realen Verteilungssituationen in der italienischen Hauptstadt durchgeführt, während das Potenzial des Systems in der spanischen Stadt durch Simulation analysiert wird.
In beiden Städten werden die an diesem Verkehrsträger beteiligten und interessierten Akteure einbezogen, um die Potenziale des Systems zu analysieren und allgemeine Leitlinien für die Festlegung eines nachhaltigen öffentlichen Verfahrens für die Verteilung von Kühlhäusern in den Städten festzulegen, das ab 2014 beginnen könnte.
