8.572 vorzeitige TodesfälleDas ist die Zahl, die sie bis heute im Laufe des Jahres, in den hohe Konzentrationen von Schadstoffpartikeln in der Luft von vier chinesischen Städten.

 

Würden diese Städte die von der Weltgesundheitsorganisation (WHO) in diesem Bereich festgelegten Grenzwerte einhalten, könnten die Todesfälle durch Einatmen dieser Partikel um mindestens 81 Prozent verringert werden.

Greenpeace und die Universität für öffentliche Gesundheit in Peking haben soeben einen Bericht veröffentlicht, der dies widerspiegelt, in dem die Schadstoffbelastung von Partikeln der Größe gemessen wurde. PM 2,5 (die mit einem Durchmesser von weniger als 2,5 μm) in den Städten Peking, Shanghai, Kanton und Xian, die die größten chinesischen Städte im Norden, Osten, Süden und Westen des Landes darstellen.

 

Die PM 2,5-Partikel stammen in erster Linie aus der Autoemissionen und der Verbrennung von Kohle, einer der wichtigsten Energiequellen Chinas.

 

Die Größe der PM2,5-Partikel, die etwa 30-mal kleiner als der Durchmesser eines menschlichen Haares ist, ermöglicht es ihnen, in den Tiefen der Lunge zu bleiben und sogar den Blutfluss zu erreichen, was langfristig zu einer schweren Verschlechterung der Gesundheit und sogar zum Tod der Betroffenen führen kann.

 

"Die PM 2,5-Partikel gefährden die menschliche Gesundheit jeden Tag, und nach den aktuellen Plänen der Regierung müssen wir bis zu 20 Jahre warten, um den nationalen Standard zu erfüllen, der immer noch weit von den WHO-Empfehlungen entfernt ist," so der Wahlkampfleiter von Greenpeace, Zhou Rong.

 

Die Studie stellt außerdem sicher, dass die wirtschaftlichen Auswirkungen der Luftverschmutzung in diesen Städten auf 1.08 Milliarden US-Dollar pro Jahr (819 Millionen Euro) betragen, was bei Anpassung an internationale Standards auf 212 Millionen US-Dollar (160 Millionen Euro) sinken würde.
