
La Universität Miguel Hernández (UMH) von Elche und dem japanischen Unternehmen Toyota InfoTechnology Centre (Toyota ITC) haben einen Forschungsvertrag über die Definition und Entwicklung von Telekommunikationssystemen unterzeichnet, die künftig auch Fahrzeuge umfassen werden.
Die UMH wird über die Hochschule Elche zur ersten europäischen Universität, mit der Toyota InfoTechnology Centre aktiv zusammenarbeitet. Derzeit arbeitet das japanische Unternehmen neben der UMH auch mit amerikanischen und japanischen Universitäten zusammen.
Die Zusammenarbeit zwischen der UMH und Toyota ITC konzentriert sich auf das Design von Kooperationssysteme für drahtlose Kommunikation die die Kommunikation zwischen Fahrzeugen sowie zwischen Infrastrukturknoten und Fahrzeugen ermöglichen. Diese Kommunikationsfähigkeit wird es in Zukunft ermöglichen, neue Anwendungen für aktive Straßenverkehrssicherheit, Verkehrsmanagement oder Ökomobilität zu entwickeln. So ist es beispielsweise möglich, eine Ferndiagnose von Fahrzeugen durchzuführen, um Störungen zu erkennen und damit mögliche Unfälle oder unvorhergesehene Unfälle zu vermeiden oder im Voraus Fahrzeuge zu ermitteln, die während des Fahrens ein Risiko darstellen können. Darüber hinaus wird die Kommunikationsfähigkeit der Fahrzeuge sie zu mobilen Sensoren machen, aus denen viele nützliche Informationen für ein dynamischeres und effizienteres Verkehrsmanagement gewonnen werden können. In diesem Bereich konzentriert sich die Arbeit der UMH auf die Entwicklung von Kommunikationsmechanismen, die ihre Funktionsweise auf der Grundlage von Kontextinformationen und Kommunikationsanforderungen für die verschiedenen Fahrzeuganwendungen optimieren können.
Die Zusammenarbeit zwischen dem Toyota ITC-Zentrum in Tokio und der UMH erfolgt über das Forschungszentrum für mobile und drahtlose Kommunikationssysteme UWICORE der Universität, das vom Professor für Kommunikationstechnik Javier Gozálvez Sempere geleitet wird.
Toyota InfoTechnology Centre ist eine Tochtergesellschaft der Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), an der unter anderem die japanische Telekommunikationsbetreiberin KDDI beteiligt ist, und Unternehmen wie Denso oder Kyocera. Toyota ITC ist ein Unternehmen, das sich ausschließlich der Forschung und Entwicklung im Bereich Telekommunikation und Elektronik für den Automobilsektor widmet.
Das Unternehmen hat derzeit Sitz in Tokio (Japan) und Silicon Valley (Mountain View, USA).
