
Der Arzt für die Universität Kantabrien (UC) David Ramirez García wurde mit dem Preis für den besten Artikel eines jungen Autors der Signal Processing Society (Beschilderung) des Instituts für elektrische und elektronische Ingenieure (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, IEEE), die führende professionelle Vereinigung von Elektro- und Elektronikingenieuren in der Welt.
Der Artikel, der 2010 in der renommierten IEEE veröffentlicht wurde Transactions on Signal Prozessing, trägt den Titel "Detection of Spatially Correlated Gaussian Time Series"und ist das Ergebnis der Arbeit, die in der Gruppe für fortgeschrittene Signalbehandlung (GTAS) der UC geleistet wurde.
Ramírez hat die Aufsicht über seine Dissertationsleiter, Javier Vía und Ignacio Santamaria, sowie die Zusammenarbeit mit Professor Louis Scharf de la Staatliche Universität Colorado.
Die Arbeit von Dr. Ramirez, der derzeit postdoktorielle Forscher in der Universität Paderborn (Deutschland) findet Anwendung in dem neuen Kommunikationsparadigma, das als "Radio Cognitiva" bekannt ist, und wird für den Zugang von Sekundärnutzern zu Funkfrequenzen, wenn dieses nicht genutzt wird, von entscheidender Bedeutung sein. Insbesondere wird die von Ramirez vorgeschlagene Technik es ermöglichen, die Anwesenheit oder Abwesenheit eines Primärbenutzers im Kanal anhand der von mehreren Antennen empfangenen Signale zu erkennen.
Die Preisverleihung findet Ende Mai auf dem diesjährigen IOE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP 2013) statt, der in Vancouver (Kanada) stattfindet. Diese Konferenz, organisiert von der Signal Processing Society des IEEE, ist die weltweit wichtigste im Bereich der Signalverarbeitung.
