
La Universitat Politètecnica de Catalunya (UPC) führt eines der fünf Projekte des LIFE-Programms in Katalonien an, das sich auf die Wiederverwendung von Holzabfällen aus der Korkindustrie konzentriert. Ecorkwaste hat einen doppelten Zweck: die Abwasserbehandlung aus der Weinproduktion und die Umwandlung von Reststoffen, die auf Deponien landen, in Ressourcen für Energie erzeugen.

Ecorkwaste-Projekt
El Ecorkwaste-Projekt, koordiniert durch Joan de Pablo, Professor der Abteilung für Chemietechnik der UPC, hat das Ziel, die verschiedenen Optionen für die Wiederverwendung von Kork und seine technische, ökologische und wirtschaftliche Durchführbarkeit zu demonstrieren, die die Verschwendung eines Großteils der Abfälle, die auf Deponien landen, ohne einen Mehrwert zu erzielen, beseitigen würde.
Während der Durchführung des Projekts, an dem auch die Institut Català del Suro, Centre Tecnològic de Manresa Eurecat-CTM (Mitglied des TECHNISCHEN Netzes) Tipsa und Cluster Vitivinicola Catalán InnoviDie UPC wird zwei Wiederverwendungssysteme prüfen: einerseits den Bau eines künstlichen Hybridfeuchtes, der in der Anlage von Codorniu in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia installiert wird, wo Korkabfälle als absorbierendes Granulat für die Abwasserbehandlung im Weinsektor verwendet werden. Darüber hinaus ist der Bau eines Pilotzentrums für Vergasung im CTM in Manresa geplant, um das Potenzial von Korkkappen, die als Substrate für die Energieerzeugung verwendet werden, zu bewerten. Die Ergebnisse der Prüfungen ermöglichen die Erstellung eines umfassenden Abfallbewirtschaftungsplans für die Korkindustrie.
