07/12/2012 - Europäisches Projekt CHEM21 - Entwicklung nachhaltigerer Arzneimittel

Die verstärkte öffentlich-private Zusammenarbeit in Europa zur Entwicklung und Herstellung nachhaltiger Arzneimittel ist gerade in Gang gekommen. Von der Universität von Manchester (Vereinigtes Königreich) GlaxoSmithKline, eines der bedeutendsten Pharmaunternehmen der Welt, das Projekt CHEM21 mehr als 26 Mio. EUR erhalten hat, zum Teil von der Europäischen Union.

 

Das CHEM21-Konsortium besteht aus 13 Universitäten y vier kleine und mittlere Unternehmen (KMU) wird vorgeschlagen, Nachhaltige biologische und chemische Stoffe als Alternative zu endlichen Materialien wie Edelmetallen dienen. Wissenschaftler und Unternehmen verwenden diese Metalle als Katalysatoren bei der Herstellung von Arzneimitteln. Nach Angaben des CHEM21-Teams wird die Einbeziehung der Biotechnologie in die Herstellungsverfahren für Arzneimittel die Ressourceneinsammlung auf dem Planeten verringern und die Umwelt schützen.

 

Die Europäische Kommission ist der Ansicht, dass dies eine einzigartige Gelegenheit für akademische Gruppen ist, mit spezialisierten Pharmaunternehmen und KMU zusammenzuarbeiten, um innovative katalytische Prozesse für die Synthese von Humanarzneimitteln zu entwickeln, so Professor Nicholas Turner von der Universität Manchester.

 

Die Projektpartner schaffen einen europäischen wissenschaftlichen Knotenpunkt, der die aktuellsten Informationen über die ökologische Produktion von Chemikalien liefert. Sie werden auch Ausbildungsdossiers erstellen, die es den Wissenschaftlern der Zukunft ermöglichen, die Grundsätze der nachhaltigen Produktion zu verstehen.

 

John Baldoni de GlaxoSmithKline erklärte: ● Die Verbesserung der Nachhaltigkeit unserer Arzneimittelherstellungsprozesse durch Partnerschaften wie CHEM21 wird nicht nur den CO2-Fußabdruck unserer Industrie verringern, sondern auch Einsparungen bewirken, die es ermöglichen, in die Entwicklung neuer Medikamente zu investieren, den Zugang zu Medikamenten durch Kostensenkungen zu erweitern und Innovationen zu erzeugen, die unser Produktionsparadigma verändern und vereinfachen werden.

 

An dem Projekt beteiligen sich auch Partner aus Belgien, Deutschland, Frankreich, den Niederlanden, Finnland und dem Vereinigten Königreich.
