11/04/2013 - Neue magnetische Mikroskopie-Modus für die Analyse von Festplatten

Ein Team von Forschern aus der Oberster Rat für wissenschaftliche Forschung (CSIC) hat eine neue Magnetmikroskopie , um Computer-Festplatten zu analysieren.

 

Die Ergebnisse der Arbeit, veröffentlicht in der letzten Ausgabe der Zeitschrift Nanotechnology, zeigen die Verbesserung der Auflösung um 15% und ist in der Lage, Bits sichtbar machen, die vorher versteckt blieben.

 

In den letzten zehn Jahren war die Mikroskopie der magnetischen Kräfte die am häufigsten verwendete Technik zur Analyse von immer kleineren magnetischen Informationsspeichergeräten. Die Auflösung dieser Technik bei Raumtemperatur ist von einigen 40 Nanometer, ähnlich der Größe eines Bits auf einer aktuellen Festplatte, ein Umstand, der vor kurzem die Suche nach neuen Messmodi motiviert hat.

 

"Die Tatsache, dass es uns derzeit gelingt, 300 GB auf einer Festplatte zu speichern, die nur ein paar Zentimeter groß ist, liegt daran, dass die Magnetbits immer kleiner werden können. Daher sind für die Analyse dieser Methoden Methoden der hochauflösenden Mikroskopie erforderlich," so José Miguel García-Martín, Forscher des CSIC am Institut für Mikroelektronik in Madrid.

 

Der Betrieb der Festplatten basiert auf der Ausrichtung der "magnetischen Elemente" eines Trägers, der mit einem Magnetisches Material, wie z.B. ferromagnetische Nanokristalle. In diesem Support sind die Ein- oder Nullen, die digitalisierte Informationsbits darstellen, Regionen mit einer in dieselbe Richtung ausgerichteten Magnetisierung, aber in einer Richtung oder in der anderen Richtung.

Der von den Forschern verfolgte Ansatz besteht darin, die Arbeitsweise des Mikropols mit einer magnetischen Spitze an seinem Ende zu verändern, die in der Mikroskopie der Magnetkräfte als Sonde verwendet wird. "In der traditionellen Methode vibriert die Spitze vertikal, während sie im neuen Messmodus seitlich agiert," betont García-Martin.

 

Darüber hinaus haben Wissenschaftler optimierte Spitzen durch kontrollierte Ablagerung des magnetischen Materials hergestellt. "Abgesehen von der Verbesserung der Auflösung um etwa 15% und der Sichtbarmachung von Bits, die zuvor maskiert waren, ist es mit der neuen Technik möglich, ein magnetisches Bild ohne topographische Störungen der zu untersuchenden Oberfläche zu erhalten," betont der CSIC-Forscher.
