
Ein Team von Wissenschaftlern aus der Europäische Syncrotronstrahlungsanlage ESRF (Frankreich), Universität Ludwig Maximilians in München (Deutschland) und Universität von Kalifornien In Los Angeles-UCLA (USA) haben sie drei Elemente kombiniert - hochenergetische X-Strahlen, eine spezielle Erkennungsmethode namens 'Phasenkontrastbildgebung' und die Verwendung eines neuen anspruchsvollen mathematischen Algorithmus (EST) zum Wiederaufbau der CT-Bilder aus Röntgendaten.
Die Ergebnisse wurden in der wissenschaftlichen Zeitschrift der Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (NAS)
3D-Tomographie
Derzeit ist die am häufigsten verwendete Methode zur Früherkennung von Brustkrebs die Dual Digital Mammographie (2D), und innerhalb dieser Tests gibt es zwischen 10 und 20 Prozent der Brusttumoren nicht erkannt werden.
Jetzt ermöglicht ein neues System die Bildproduktion in 3D für die Diagnose durch eine Computertomographie (TC) mit einer Raumauflösung von 2 und 3 mal höher als herkömmliche Scanner, jedoch mit einem Strahlendosen, die ungefähr 25-mal niedriger sind.
Die CT ermöglicht eine präzise 3D-Anzeige der Organe des menschlichen Körpers, kann aber nicht routinemäßig bei der Diagnose von Brustkrebs angewendet werden, da das Risiko einer Radiosensitivität zu hoch ist. Mit diesem neuen System sind die Gewebe gegenüber der hohen Röntgenenergie transparenter und können daher die Strahlendosis reduzieren.
Ergebnisse
Zur Durchführung der Tests und zur Bewertung der Auflösung des neuen Systems hat das Team Röntgenstrahlen auf eine menschliche Brust in mehreren verschiedenen Winkeln unter Verwendung eines Phasenkontrasttomographie verwendet und den EST-Algorithmus auf 512 Bilder angewendet, um eine höhere Auflösung in einer geringeren Strahlendosis als die Mammographie zu erzeugen. Danach kategorisierten fünf völlig unabhängige Radiologen die Bilder nach ihrer Schärfe, Kontrast und Qualität.
Es wird erwartet, dass diese neue Technologie, die derzeit in der Forschungsphase ist, in einigen Jahren für Patienten verfügbar sein wird.
