Derzeit um 1,2 Milliarden Menschen In der Welt haben sie keinen Zugang zu Elektrizität.

 

Diese Zahl, die etwa der Bevölkerung Indiens entspricht, macht eine Verdoppelung des Ausbautempos der Stromversorgung weltweit nötig, um das Ziel eines Zugangs von 100 % zu erreichen, festgelegt von der Organisation der Vereinten Nationen (UN), ein Schlüsselfaktor für die Beseitigung der extremen Armut.

 

Obwohl zwischen 1990 und 2010 1,8 Milliarden Menschen Zugang zu Strom hatten, lag diese Zahl nur knapp über dem demografischen Wachstum von 1,6 Milliarden im selben Zeitraum.

 

Diese Daten sind Teil eines Berichts des Weltbank (BM), das von Experten aus 15 Gremien zusammengeführt wird, das erste zur Überwachung der Fortschritte bei der Verwirklichung der drei Ziele der Initiative Nachhaltige Energie für alle2011 von der UNO vorgelegt:

 

1. Verwirklichung des universellen Zugangs zu Elektrizität

2. Verdoppelung erneuerbarer Energiequellen

3. Verbesserung der Energieeffizienz.

In dem Dokument wird darauf hingewiesen, dass seit 1990 nur "begrenzte" Fortschritte bei der Verbesserung des Zugangs zu sauberen Strom- und Haushaltsbrennstoffen erzielt wurden. 2,8 Milliarden Menschen verwenden Holz oder andere Biomasse zum Kochen und Heizen für ihre Wohnungen. Diese Methode verunreinigt die Haushalte, schadet der Gesundheit und verursacht jährlich etwa vier Millionen Todesfälle, vor allem Frauen und Kinder.

 

"Die Nachfrage nach Strom ist nach wie vor höher als das Angebot. Strom muss erschwinglich sein und zunehmend nachhaltig erzeugt und effizienter genutzt werden," sagte die Vizepräsidentin der Weltbank, Rachel Kyte, während der Präsentation des Berichts in Wien. "Es ist klar, dass Maßnahmen von noch nie dagewesenem Ausmaß erforderlich sind, um dieser Herausforderung zu begegnen, d.h. den Grundbedürfnissen der Bevölkerung gerecht zu werden und dies nachhaltig zu machen," fügte er hinzu.
