Für viele Anwendungen, wie z. B. Biomedizin-, mechanische oder Umweltüberwachungsgeräte, könnte die Nutzung der durch unsere Bewegungen erzeugten Energie eine, wenn auch kleine, unbegrenzte Energiequelle darstellen.

 

Mit dieser Idee wurde ein Team von Forschern aus der Institut für Technologie in Massachusetts (MIT) hat ein Gerät entwickelt, das elektrische Energie aus täglichen Bewegungen wie Wandern oder Sport erzeugen kann, was als unbegrenzte Energiequelle für kleine Geräte entscheidend sein könnte.

 

Das neue elektrochemische Technologiesystem würde durch die Bindung von Metall- und Polymerfolien, die in flüssigem Elektrolyt getaucht sind, in Form von Sandwich verbunden sein, das diese Energie durch eine leichte Biegung des Ganzen erzeugen würde. Dieses System wird in der Zeitschrift Nature Communications, in einem Artikel des MIT-Lehrers Ju Li, mit den Absolventen Sangtae Kim y Bald Ju Choi, und vier weitere Menschen.

 

Bislang basierten die meisten Geräte, die für die Nutzung kleiner Bewegungen ausgelegt waren, auf dem triboelektrischen Effekt (im Wesentlichen Reibung, wie das Reiben eines Ballons gegen einen Wollpullover) oder auf piezoelektrischen (kristallen, die eine kleine Spannung erzeugen, wenn es gebogen oder komprimiert wird). Diese Vorrichtungen funktionieren gut für Hochfrequenz-Bewegungsquellen wie durch die Vibrationen der Maschinen. Für die typischen Bewegungen der menschlichen Skala wie Wandern oder Bewegung haben diese Systeme jedoch Grenzen.

 

 

Einfach und flexibel

 

Dieses neue System verwendet eine Technologie, die ähnlich ist wie die Lithium-Ionen-Batterien, so dass es wahrscheinlich in großem Maßstab wirtschaftlich produziert werden könnte, sagt Li. Darüber hinaus wären diese Geräte inhärent flexibel, so dass sie mit der benutzerfreundlichen Technologie besser kompatibel wären und weniger wahrscheinlich unter mechanischer Spannung brechen würden.

 

Während die piezoelektrischen Materialien auf einem rein physikalischen Prozess basieren, ist das neue System elektrochemischer Art wie eine Batterie oder ein Brennstoffstapel. Es verwendet zwei dünne Blätter von Lithiumlegierungen als Elektroden, getrennt durch eine Schicht porösen Polymers mit flüssigem Elektrolyt getränkt, die effizient ist, um Lithiumionen zwischen den Metallplatten zu transportieren. Aber im Gegensatz zu einer wiederaufladbaren Batterie, die in Elektrizität nimmt, speichert und dann freisetzt, trägt dieses System in mechanischer Energie und schaltet den Strom aus.
